Potty Training Girls
You may have certain shivers or apprehensions regarding the process of potty training girls. However, do not distress. Generally, girls are faster learners when it comes to potty training than boys. Therefore, consider yourself lucky and get going as the supportive and friendly parent to your child.
The first step in the process of potty training girls is for you to determine if your girl is ready to be potty trained. Does she show signs like awareness towards the need for relieving herself? Is she curious about the way you pee? Does she have a better control over her bladder and bowel muscles? Answering such questions in the affirmative will make you identify the right time for potty training girls. Something to keep in mind is that starting earlier or later will not matter. If you begin early, her training will take more time and vice versa. Do not, in any way, force her or pressure her for potty training. This will only push her farther away from being potty trained. Then again, begin when there are no major changes happening in the life of your girl – change of residence, new baby coming, etc. – for she will be too overwhelmed to handle any more changes including her potty habits.
Start potty training girls during warm season. It will be better because she will have more freedom of movement and will not be restricted by layers of clothing. The easier it is for your girl to get out of her pants and underwear, the better it will be for the progress of potty training girls.
Potty Training For Girls Is Easier Than You Think
Once you know that your girl is all set to be potty trained, begin by taking her out for shopping for her new potty chair and training diapers. Let her choose the ones she likes. The better she likes her training diaper and potty, the better she will feel when making use of them. Also, ask her to choose panties just for her. If she loves her panties, she will try hard not to soil them by pooping or peeing in them. Buy some picture books and videos demonstrating potty moves and training.
The best way to potty train your child is to make her see you use the toilet. Do not force her to come every time you go to the toilet, but do not refuse if she wants to follow you in. Ridiculous as it may sound, the truth is that girls learn faster by imitating their mothers. If the above method does not suit you, try using your girl’s favorite doll as the demonstration equipment. Demonstrate the potty moves using the doll and a toilet for the doll. Eventually, with her permission, stop using diapers altogether. While there will be more accidents than successes, the progress will improve.
Encourage your girl, even if she has accidents. For every successful attempt on her part to use the potty, praise her. You can even take her out for treats or give her sweets to celebrate her success. One point for you to remember is to never overdo anything – too much praise will make her self conscious, while too little will discourage her. Have lots of patience with her. The progress will be slow. Nevertheless diaper free days will come sooner than you expected.
